S.L. HUNTER SpeechWorks offers a weekly communication group for adults who are living with Aphasia or other communication difficulties. The group is open to adults with all levels of communication ability/style who have experienced stroke or other neurological disorders that make communication difficult for them. The group is facilitated by a registered Speech-Language Pathologist, Communicative Disorders Assistant, and a dedicated team of volunteers. The purpose of the group is to provide a supportive and safe space for the development and practice of functional communication strategies and to increase self-esteem of members through the use of humour, interactive activities, and self-expression. The group routine involves discussion of current events in the media/news, coffee break with light refreshments, and interactive group activities/games. Individuals with swallowing diffculties are responsible for bringing their own drinks/snacks. Individuals with PPA welcome.
