Join us in the SUNY New Paltz aphasia groups!

The aphasia groups are for individuals who have difficulty communicating (speaking, understanding, reading, and/or writing) after a stroke or injury to the language areas of the brain. Some people also participate in individual speech therapy, either here at the university or somewhere else.

People with various types of aphasia are welcome.


WHEN:  Wednesdays from 10:00am – 11:30am (Therapeutic Songwriting Group)

              or Wednesdays from 3:00pm – 4:30pm (Conversation Group)

12 weeks – begins on February 8, 2017


WHERE: Speech, Language and Hearing Center at SUNY New Paltz


WHAT: Meet and work with other people who have aphasia to improve communication and make new connections


COST: $45 / semester

Aphasia Group Descriptions – Spring 2017

Create and Communicate Through Songwriting NEW Let your voice be heard! Express yourself creatively through this innovative therapeutic songwriting group. Join other people with aphasia and work with speech and music therapists. Explore issues, concerns, and ideas through music. Develop confidence and communication skills in the process. Background in music is not required. Create a CD of songs written in the group. Wednesdays at 10:00 am

Conversation Group – This is a chance to talk about anything you want – hobbies, sports, current events, living with aphasia – the list is endless! Have fun and develop your communication skills and work on your personal communication goals in a supportive, social environment with other people who have aphasia. Wednesdays at 3:00 pm
