The AAC Speech Clinic, LLC was founded in March 2018 by Katherine Wallisch M.S., CCC-SLP/L a Speech-Language Pathologist who specializes in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) and is passionate about working with families on how to augment communication for individuals with complex communication needs.

We at The AAC Speech Clinic, LLC are proud to offer what we call an Early Supported Discharge Service for patients who have suffered a stroke and now have aphasia.

This service is to assure that our patients continue to receive quality care within the comforts of their own home in order to assist with generalization and integration of their new voice in their natural environment.

How the Therapy Program works:

• Patients are seen at home weekly for 3 months.

Upon completion if patient is ready to be discharged then they are moved to our quarterly monitoring program for up to 1 year.

This program assure that our patients ALWAYS have access to a qualified AAC Specialist Speech-Language Pathologist.

Speech & Language Assessment: A thorough Speech & Language Assessment is conducted using a variety of informal and criterion referenced assessments in order to gauge your communication abilities. This is a one hour session in the clinic/home.

AAC Evaluation: This can include low-tech (non-speech generating), mid-tech or high-tech AAC. This assessment can take up to 2.5 hours. Depending on AAC Specialist requirements for this assessment is conducted either in home or in clin-ic.

Communication Device Trial: Based on the outcome of the two previous assessments the AAC Specialist (SLP) will then conduct a 4-week trial period with a variety of devices in order to tailor the most efficient communication method for our patients unique communication needs.

Prescription of device: The final step is prescribing the device in order to finally give functional communication to increase activity and community participation to our patients.
