R.E.A.L. Experts: A Webinar Series for People With Aphasia

Back in the spring, a small team of National Aphasia Association advocates, including our two affiliate coordinators — Denise McCall and Brooke Lang — reached out to aphasia clinics around the United States to gather the thoughts and feelings of people with aphasia. These videos became the backbone of the R.E.A.L. experts’ four special Ask the Expert webinars. R.E.A.L. stands for Relatable, Experienced Aphasia Leaders, otherwise known as people with aphasia.

The four webinars covered four topics:

On June 1, 2023, the experts talked about how they teach family and friends about aphasia.

On June 15, 2023, the experts covered the pandemic and its impact.

On June 22, 2023, the experts discussed strategies and tools they use to aid communication.

And on June 29, 2023, the experts brought up creative advocacy and awareness efforts in the United States.

Together, they provided a month of education and connection centered on aphasia awareness.
