Kiiya Shibata is a licensed and certified Speech Language Pathologist with a focus in the area of primary progressive aphasia/apraxia of speech (PPA/OS) and frontotemporal degeneration. She received her Bachelor of Arts (2013) and Master of Science (2015) from San Francisco State University. Her clinical practice focuses on speech-language intervention and clinical education for families impacted by PPA/OS. She is currently pursuing a PhD at Vanderbilt University where her research focuses on care access for people with PPA/OS with minoritized ethnoracial identities and languaging practices, as well as laryngeal functioning in frontotemporal degenerative syndromes. Kiiya facilitates several community groups focused on peer support for individuals with PPA/OS and/or their loved ones. She also hosts a mentoring circle for students and early career bilingual speech-language pathologists who carry minoritized ethnoracial identities.
