Planned Giving

Create a will that benefits others

Your will is an important document. It states your wishes. Instead of the state appointing an administrator, someone you choose and trust will handle your assets.

Here are three tips to think about:

  1. Make sure your will is legally valid. It is best to work with an attorney who specializes in estate planning and can help you accomplish your goals.
  2. Make sure your will is up to date. Things can, and do, change. Remember that your will can be easily amended to be sure it is up to date.
  3. Make sure your will is stored in a safe place. Keep a copy in your files but keep the original in a safe deposit box at the bank or stored with a legal representative.

To help you leave a legacy that will benefit others, below is some sample language that you might consider.

Unrestricted Gifts: These are gifts that the organization can use for any legal purpose giving the leadership of an organization discretion to use the funding where it is most needed. This type of investment in operating support can make a significant difference in a nonprofit meeting their goals. These gifts can be specified in several different ways, explained below.

  • Specified amount:
    • I give, devise, and bequeath to the National Aphasia Association, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in the state of New York, EIN # 13-3411063, the sum of ______Dollars.
      ($ __________)
  • Specified percentage:
    • I give, devise, and bequeath to the National Aphasia Association, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in the state of New York, EIN # 13-3411063, an amount equal to ______ percent (_______%) of the value of my estate at the time of my death.
  • Residual bequest:
    • I give, devise, and bequeath all the residue of my estate, both real and personal, to the National Aphasia Association, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in the state of New York, EIN # 13-3411063.
  • Contingent bequest:
    • If the above named beneficiaries should predecease me, then I hereby give and bequeath all of my estate to the National Aphasia Association, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in the state of New York, EIN # 13-3411063.

Restricted Gifts: These gifts are designated to support a specific program, project, or area of research.

I give, devise and bequeath to the National Aphasia Association, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in the state of New York, EIN # 13-3411063, the sum of $_______ (or X% of my estate), (or other personal property herein described) to be used for ______________________________________________________________________________

If, at any time, is becomes impossible or impractical for my gift to be used for the above designated purpose, the NAA shall use my gift for a purpose and in a manner that it determines most closely meets the above designated purpose.

Third Party Event

Hosting an event in person or virtually is a fun way to support the NAA. You can host a fundraiser with friends on Facebook or have a yard sale or bake sale and donate the proceeds to the NAA. Please reach out to us to let us know about your plans or to discuss your ideas at answers@aphasia.org
