Ask the Expert
Topic: Staying Connected: Relationships and Community When Living with PPA / PPAOS
Date: Wednesday April 8, 2026
Time: 12-1pm Eastern Time (ET)
Experts: Becky Khayum and Panelists
Description: Living with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) and Primary Progressive Apraxia of Speech (PPAOS) can change the way we communicate. Those changes can sometimes affect relationships with friends, family, and social groups. People living with PPA may worry about participating in conversations, especially in group settings, while friends or acquaintances may feel unsure about how to communicate and gradually drift away. These experiences can increase the risk of social isolation.
In this Ask the Expert webinar, people living with PPA and their family members will share their real-life experiences navigating these challenges. Through a panel discussion, they will talk about maintaining friendships, managing anxiety about communication, and finding ways to stay engaged in social activities even as communication changes.
The conversation will also explore practical strategies for participating in group conversations, tips for sharing a PPA diagnosis with others, and ways to help friends and family understand how to communicate effectively. Panelists will discuss how openness, education, and supportive communities can help people with PPA remain connected and supported.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from the lived experiences of others who understand the journey.
Who should attend: People living with PPA / PPOAS, family members, care partners, and anyone interested in learning how to support meaningful connection and communication.
