The Martha Taylor Sarno Advocacy Award is an award presented by the National Aphasia Association (NAA) in December of each year.
This annual award recognizes an individual with aphasia who best represents the NAA’s mission of promoting public awareness and understanding of aphasia. An advocate champions a cause for the greater good of the community impacted, while often generously sharing their own journey as a source of connection and true understanding.
Dr. Martha Taylor Sarno, the founder of the NAA, is internationally recognized for her commitment to individuals with aphasia and those who accompany them on their journey. Her innovation, passion and engagement sparked the connections that continue today and provide support, education, resources and access to aphasia research that is centered on the life of the individuals served by the NAA.
During the 2022 celebration of the organization’s 35th year of service, Dr. Sarno reflected on the thousands of lives that have been enhanced by the NAA’s focus on giving voice to those who are not able to use theirs.
