The Intensive Program of Aphasia Therapy (IPAT) is a comprehensive language therapy program led by a multidisciplinary team with expertise in speech therapy, neurology, and neuropsychology. Our mission is to offer cutting-edge, evidence-based treatments for aphasia in a daily, intensive format that is generally not available elsewhere. The program is tailored to individual needs and goals while emphasizing a sense of community and well-being through functional communication.

Our program runs 4 times a year and includes a precision diagnostic assessment followed by 2 weeks of therapy, 5 days a week. We follow the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA) service model and include daily group sessions, family education and training and focus on living well with aphasia.

Accommodations can be found at Kathy’s House, a hospital guest house, that provides affordable lodging and caring support in a “home away from home” environment for families who need to travel to Milwaukee to participate in IPAT.

Research opportunities may be available through the Medical College of Wisconsin’s neurology department Language Imaging Lab.
