Larry’s Speak Easy
Larry’s SpeakEasy is a communication tool built for people who struggle to find or form words — stroke survivors, those living with aphasia, ALS, Parkinson’s, TBI, and other conditions that affect speech.
The app is simple by design. Users tap pre-written phrases or type their own message, and the app speaks it aloud for them. No learning curve. No frustration. Just their words, their voice.
Larry’s SpeakEasy was born from a personal experience. My brother Larry struggled to communicate for years. Watching him lose the ability to express himself — his needs, his feelings, his personality — was heartbreaking. This app is my answer to that.
It works on any device with a browser. No download required. Individual access is available for a one-time payment of $8.99 for lifetime use, with a free 7-day trial so anyone can try it first.
Larry’s SpeakEasy is not a replacement for speech therapy — it’s a bridge for those on the road to recovery, and a permanent voice for those whose journey has reached its destination. Some people will use it while they rebuild. Others will rely on it every day for the rest of their lives.
Either way, it’s there.
About the Creator:
My name is Robert Schmidtbauer. I hold a degree in Communications with years of experience in television and media, and for the past eight years I have served as secretary at a United Methodist church. I also work with Tomahawk Area Interfaith Volunteers as an administrative assistant, scheduling transportation for seniors and individuals with disabilities while managing their web presence — work that has given me a deep appreciation for the challenges faced by people who need extra support in their daily lives.
Larry’s SpeakEasy grew out of something deeply personal. My brother Larry suffered a stroke, and watching him struggle to communicate — to express his needs, his feelings, his very personality — was one of the hardest things I have ever witnessed. I built this app because I couldn’t find anything simple enough, affordable enough, or human enough to fill that gap. I built it for Larry, and for everyone like him.
