The Purdue Aphasia Brain Injury Communication and Cognition (ABC) lab studies the interaction between language, cognition and the brain in people who have aphasia and other cognitive difficulties (attention, memory, planning, etc.) stemming from a stroke or traumatic brain injury. The long-term goal of our work is to develop an understanding of the role of cognition in aphasia recovery so that we can improve aphasia rehabilitation outcomes.
We have several ongoing studies that align with these goals including:
- We are currently recruiting people with aphasia for a study that is developing a clinical attention test. This study is offered in-person on the Purdue West Lafayette campus or at our Indianapolis satellite location.
- We are also recruiting people who have had a stroke, but not necessarily an aphasia diagnosis, looking at how listening to music impacts attention. This study is offered virtually.
