Saint Peter’s speech and language therapists use motivating activities designed to encourage patients to participate and learn new and necessary oral motor, articulation, and language skills. The goal of speech and language therapy is to improve each patient’s ability to understand language and to become more effective communicators in all environments. Our speech language pathologists are also skilled at treating swallowing difficulties and in working with cognitive impairments using cognitive rehabilitation approaches.
Our speech and language therapists often treat:
- Aphasia or loss of language skills
- Difficulty with receptive/expressive language
- Difficulty with oral motor skills
- Articulation/phonological errors
- Dysarthria (difficulty speaking due to weak muscles)
- Stuttering
- Voice disorders (chronic hoarseness, vocal nodules or polyps)
- Dysphagia/difficulty swallowing

Christine Knospe earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The College of New Jersey and her Master of Arts from Montclair State University in Speech-Language Pathology. Christine’s primary experience has been in sub-acute and long-term care settings, home health and outpatient when working with adult patients, and in specialized schools when working with pediatric patients with complex diagnoses. She is certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association to treat both adult and pediatric patients with all forms of speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice and swallowing disorders; additionally, she has specialized training in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) LOUD, Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display (PODD), Beckman Oral Motor, and Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT). She developed a passion for working with adults who sustained strokes or traumatic brain injuries while volunteering at Adler Aphasia Center during her graduate experience. Prior to a career change to speech therapy, Christine worked in human resources for a decade. As a result, her philosophy towards treatment is to ensure strong communication with patients and their caregivers; furthermore, compassion and professionalism are always at the forefront of her mind. Christine focuses on the whole patient and how their diagnosis impacts their everyday lives, which allows her to target therapy sessions and home exercise programs to most effectively improve her patients’ quality of life.
