Dr. Peter Turkeltaub is the director of the MedStar NRH Aphasia Clinic. He specializes in medical management of aphasia. Appointments focus on:

  • Understanding the nature of the aphasia and the prognosis for recovery
  • Managing common medical issues in people with aphasia
  • Enhancing life participation
  • Medications for cognition and aphasia
  • Research studies

Dr. Turkeltaub coordinates care with patients’ speech-language pathologists and neuropsychologists.

The clinic is designed for those who have experienced a recent stroke or other injury to the brain and who are having language problems. It is also for those who have previously been diagnosed with aphasia and want to improve their communication skills, even years after their illness or injury.

Dr. Turkeltaub examines each patient’s brain images and medical records. He uses this to determine how the brain has been affected and to identify any other significant physical or emotional health issues that may be impacting communication. This information is important in developing an individualized treatment plan.
