Aphasia Boot Camp
Aphasia Boot Camp is an easy-to-use speech therapy application for people with aphasia and/or apraxia. It is especially useful for individuals who also experience challenges with manual dexterity, cognition, attention, or memory. The software’s simple, uncluttered design allows many people with aphasia and/or apraxia to use it independently, although some initial guidance from a family member, caregiver, or clinician may be helpful.
In addition to individual use, the software is structured for use by clinicians with any number of users. Enterprise-level management is also available for institutions with one or more speech-language pathologists, allowing users to be assigned to individual clinicians.
Practice exercises are organized by sound type, including vowels, consonants, and consonant blends, and incorporate word and sentence repetition. The program also includes word-retrieval exercises, such as opposites and sentence completion, as well as word-category and sentence-building activities.
The software is not intended to replace the services of a speech-language pathologist. Rather, it can serve as a valuable adjunct to therapy, provide additional practice for people with limited access to professional services, and assist clinicians in supporting their clients.
The cost is $2.99 per user per month, and access may be purchased for as little as one user for one month.
About the Creator:
Sunny Anne Holliday is the founder and developer of Aphasia Boot Camp. She has worked in software development for many years and holds a four-year degree in chemical engineering and a PhD in chemistry. After her husband experienced a stroke that resulted in aphasia, apraxia, cognitive challenges, and physical impairments, she saw firsthand how difficult it could be to obtain consistent, affordable speech therapy. In their area, access was limited, insurance coverage was minimal, and the online programs they tried were too complicated or frustrating for him to use comfortably.
That experience led Dr. Holliday to create Aphasia Boot Camp, a simple, accessible speech and language practice application designed around the real-world needs of people with aphasia and apraxia. Her husband now uses the program independently every day and continues to progress through its lessons. Combining her background in software development and science with her experience as a caregiver, Sunny is committed to making practical, affordable practice tools more accessible to individuals, families, clinicians, and organizations.
