Two individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABI) share the lived experience, including living with aphasia, in collaboration with a speech/language pathologist. Co-hosts Ken and Jesse interview peers about their experiences following ABI and healthcare professionals and friends and family members who spend time with people who have an ABI. This work is an application of project-oriented intervention in ABI rehabilitation.

About the Hosts:

Jesse Aron sustained an anoxic brain injury 17 years ago when he was 23. His work on the podcast including planning, interviewing, reviewing and generating episode summaries helps him target cognitive, communication and self-regulatory skills.

Ken Bernson had a stroke at age 42, 16 years ago. He works as a peer advocate at the Center for Independent Living. His roles on the podcast include inviting, preparing for and interviewing guests and reviewing episode content. Ken’s work on this project provides a context to address his communication challenges as well as organization and self-regulatory skills.
Both Jesse and Ken are motivated by the opportunity to help others.

Melissa Capo is a Speech and Language Pathologist with 25 years of experience working with adults with acquired brain injury and aphasia in community settings. Melissa is an advocate for person-driven, meaningful engagement in therapy including the use of projects.

All three authors live in the Capital Region of New York.
