June is National Aphasia Awareness Month
The National Aphasia Association is excited to announce our theme and initiative for the 2026 Aphasia Awareness month: United for Aphasia Awareness
This is a nation-wide movement bringing together individuals and communities across the country with one shared goal: Have every state recognize June as National Aphasia Awareness Month!

United For Aphasia Awareness: Watch the Map Come to Life
This year, you can watch awareness grow in real time.
NAA Ambassadors and advocates across the country have been reaching out to local and state legislators to request proclamations recognizing June as National Aphasia Awareness Month. As proclamations are secured, each state will be highlighted on our map. States highlighted in dark green have received state-wide proclamations. States highlighted in light green have received proclamations in certain cities or counties.
What begins with a single advocate quickly becomes a national movement.
Each new proclamation represents:
- A conversation started
- A community reached
- A step toward greater understanding
Powered by the Aphasia Community
This effort is made possible by the dedication of our NAA Ambassadors and advocates across the nation.
People with aphasia, care partners, speech-language pathologists, and community leaders are reaching out, sharing their stories, and helping bring awareness to their states.
Many are working together in teams, supporting one another, and building connections along the way.
Their work reflects something powerful. Awareness doesn’t happen all at once—it happens one conversation, one connection, and one action at a time.
Why This Matters
By naming aphasia clearly and publicly through proclamations, we:
- Increase understanding of what aphasia is, and how prevalent it is
- Reduce stigma
- Promote communication access
- Support individuals and families nationwide
A National Effort, Led by NAA
The National Aphasia Association created this initiative and developed a comprehensive Proclamation Toolkit to support it. The toolkit included Step-by-step guidance, Ready-to-use templates, Follow-up support and Resources for sharing success with media and communities.
When proclamations are achieved, they are shared in a way that strengthens awareness both locally and nationally .
This is not just about recognition, it’s about impact.
When a State Is Recognized
We are filling in the US/United for Aphasia Awareness map and the ambassadors are encouraged to brag! Share the news locally, Connect with media, Educate their communities and Celebrate the achievement!!!
Each proclamation becomes a launch point for greater impact and awareness, not the end of the process.
A Movement You Can Support
Every step forward, from developing tools to sharing these stories nationwide, is made possible through the generosity of those who believe and support the NAA’s mission! Remember, we clearly envision a world where there are no barriers to living fully with aphasia and work daily to make that happen!
