At Nova Southeastern University, students from several different health care disciplines learned about living with aphasia thanks to NAA Board Members Barbara and Steve Kessler. The story of Barbara’s challenges living with aphasia served as a challenge to student teams to design innovative technological solutions.

The NAA Speech Bubble Tour was a month-long, nationwide adventure designed to bring aphasia awareness to communities across the country during Aphasia Awareness Month. Read the recap, view the photos and videos, and learn how to continue the conversation!

Perhaps the best way to learn about aphasia is hearing from people with aphasia themselves! For Aphasia Awareness Month, we asked people with aphasia to share video examples of how they answer the question “What is aphasia?”

Volunteer NAA Ambassadors and aphasia advocates across the country have been reaching out to local and state legislators to request proclamations recognizing June as National Aphasia Awareness Month. View the Proclamation Viewbook and Gallery.

We’re inviting our community to help turn awareness into action by creating a personal fundraiser in support of the National Aphasia Association. Whether your goal is $50 or $5,000, every fundraiser helps us continue our mission of providing education, support, advocacy, and connection to people living with aphasia and those who care about them.

Earlier this month, the NAA had the honor of representing the aphasia community during a federal advocacy event on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., held in recognition of National Speech-Language-Hearing Month.

June is National Aphasia Awareness Month! Our theme for 2026 is “United for Aphasia Awareness.” This is a nation-wide movement bringing together individuals and communities across the country with one shared goal: Recognize June as National Aphasia Awareness Month in every state! In recognition of International Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) Awareness Week, the National Aphasia Association hosted a special three-day series of events dedicated to education, connection, and community.

Each year, the NAA bestows our aphasia advocacy award in honor of our founder, Dr. Martha Taylor Sarno. Today, we celebrate our 2025 recipient, Thomas Broussard. Read on to learn about Dr. Broussard and the advocacy award.

There’s a new project being led by the NAA with funding support from PCORI. This project puts the voices of people with aphasia at the center of the conversation. It’s called a CORE Impact project, and the goal is to identify the most important impacts and challenges of living with aphasia.
