From three grants to ten! More opportunities. More ideas. More action.
What started as a small idea to honor an extraordinary woman is growing into something much bigger.
The National Aphasia Association is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2027 Dr. Davetrina Seles Gadson Health Equity Mini-Grants!
And this year, we’re expanding!
Thanks to a generous gift from the family of beloved aphasia advocate Wanda Crews, we’re growing from three $500 grants to TEN $1,000 grants—a total of $10,000 to support new ideas and projects!
Celebrating What We’ve Started
Our first three grant recipients are already helping move health equity forward through creative projects, community education, and research. Their work is a powerful reminder that meaningful change doesn’t always require a large investment. Sometimes, it begins with one person, one idea, and the opportunity to make it happen.
We’re proud to celebrate their accomplishments and the legacies of two remarkable women—Dr. Seles and Wanda Crews—whose commitment to others continues to inspire action.

Have an Idea? We Want to Hear It!
The 2027 Health Equity Mini-Grants are now accepting applications. Whether you’re a researcher, clinician, student, advocate, or community member, we encourage you to explore how your ideas could help make aphasia care and resources more equitable, inclusive, and accessible.
Applications close December 31, 2026.
And There’s More to Come…
This story reminds us of something we see throughout the aphasia community:
One person can make a difference. One idea can inspire action. One act of generosity can open doors for others.
This weekend, the NAA is launching something special—our 2026 year-end campaign, The Power of One.
We’ll be celebrating the people, ideas, and actions that make our community stronger—and inviting everyone to discover their own power to make a difference.
What’s your ONE?
Stay tuned!
